Thank you very much for your interest in the Bregenzer Alphornseminar.
Bregenzer Alphornseminar
July 22nd - 25th, 2010
The Alphorn and the city of Bregenz have a long history and many shared ties.
Natural trumpets or horns, such as the alphorn, bucina, lituus or cornu, on which only notes of the natural harmonic scale can be produced, were already being blown by the Romans in the ancient city of Brigantium - today's city of Bregenz - more than 2000 years ago. It is in the city's town centre, with its mix of medieval and baroque architecture such as the onion-shaped dome of the "Martinsturm", that the Bregenzer Alphornseminar will take place, with indoor and outdoor tuition at the Marianum College above Lake Constance.
Alphorn players interested in attending the Alphornseminar are invited to learn and find out more about the potential of this beautiful natural instrument. Over four days qualified instructors will teach you specific exercises to improve and deepen key skills such as breathing techniques, embouchure and buzzing, as well as meter, phrasing and articulation. As much as possible tuition will take place outdoors, where participants will have many opportunities to play in groups under an open sky.
The Alphornseminar is also intended to facilitate the beginning of lasting cross-border friendships. The so-called "four-country-corner" with Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein all bordering one another - also known as "Euregio" - has a rich cultural heritage for seminar participants to explore and enjoy.
The Alphorn is one of the oldest wind instruments in existence, and we make every effort to ensure that this distinctive and beautiful musical instrument can be enjoyed by as many people as possible. We also strive to make sure that the Bregenzer Alphornseminar remains at the heart of the cultural activities of the city of Bregenz.
By now the Bregenzer Alphornseminar is into its fourth year. We would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to all previous participants for their enthusiasm as well as their praise and valuable comments. In the Bregenzer Alphornseminar 2010 we will continue to aim for outstanding quality and interaction with our participants, and together we will work to achieve all of your alphorn-playing and performing goals.
Important news: ‘All under one roof’. In 2009 we moved the place of event from the Siechenhaus to the Marianum College, where we could offer you larger premises and amenities such as room and board.
We look forward to seeing you in July 2010.
Yours,
Reinhold F. Reber
